Annette Bater Pottery

My practice is a focused exploration of form. While texture may find its way into the clay, it is the shape, silhouette, and the space a vessel occupies—and creates—that guides my hands.

As a newcomer to pottery, I am drawn to the serene, intentional forms of Japanese ceramics, which serve as both inspiration and a guiding north star.

My work is a dialogue with this tradition, an attempt to capture its spirit of essentialism while my own voice as a maker continues to emerge. I am not where I aspire to be, but I believe there is integrity in the evolution, in honouring the path from lump of clay to something that holds space.

I started this little side gig as a way to slow down and take time for myself. You'll find handmade bead keychains, beaded and laminiated bookmarks. All of this is done in the comfort of my own home with a furry little assistant and a husband who can be coaxed into helping!
